Eggbound...Need help!

Wow that sounds miserable! Keep me updated! Eggbound is one of my biggest fears .

I lost a RIR pullet last year to a stuck egg and not long after, her sister starting having trouble. It took her quite a while to get some good laying habits going and I needed to separate her to help an egg pass a few times. What worked for me (aside from the one that died) is to put her in a hospital cage with food, water, heat and darkness.

Has your hen passed the rest of the shell yet? It definitely needs to come out. I hope things are improving!

Thank goodness, I have a happy update today. At about 11pm last night, Lily still had not passed the egg, so I put on gloves, and pulled it out. It tore, and only about 3/4 of it came out. She passed the rest this morning, and already seems 100% back to normal. We are going to keep her isolated for a couple days. Even though she is acting normal, I know she has to be very traumatized.

Aw i'm so pleased to hear that Lily is okay

We lost a hen because she was eggbound about four years ago...i hadn't discovered this site back then and we had no idea what to do. She passed away on the way to the vets...at least now i'll be prepared should the worst ever happen again!

Glad to here Lily is doing better. My girl seems almost happy after she finally passes her gigantic teradactly eggs.
Hope this isn't a trend with her!

Thanks to everyone who helped. After losing Marigold on Wednesday, I was terrified yesterday, when Lily, her sister had the same problem. I was so excited this morning when I checked on her, and she was back to normal. I am going to post a pic of her tonight.

Awww!! I am so glad she is better!! It is terrible lossing a chicken to eggbound. I am sorry for your losses.

Theophilus , if you are still reading, I have to ask...is that a picture of your Milliefloor d'Uccle?!? He is gorgeous!
