Eggbound or broody?

I have an olive eager that I found sitting on the nest instead of sitting on the perch the other night when I went to shut their coop up. Now she's been sitting in a nest box all day. She's always taken a long time to lay an egg but this seems excessive. Which
brings me to the question, Is it broodiness or is she possibly eggbound? I am new to chickens, so I have no clue. The only symptom that I see is her compulsion to stay in the nest box on the ceramic egg.

One of my BA has been doing the same the last couple days. I’m thinking broody, I keep putting her out of the nest often. If she keeps it up I will have to put her in broody jail.

I have only dealt with one EB so far and in that case I noticed her puffy with her tail down and lethargic.

The pic is lulu this morning after I booted her from the nest.

I have no experience with egg bound hens but I have a Jersey Giant that goes broody all the time. When a broody sits on eggs she sits differently. It’s hard to explain but once you see it you know it. They lay flat like a pancake. They look like they are melting or something lol. Here are a couple picks. The black hen is my Jersey in a broody poster. The silver and black hen is my Wyandotte sitting in an egg laying posture

How do you address the brooding? I have done broody jail once, currently my jail is the baby chickens bedroom within the coop so I’m trying to just keep her out of the nest.

I let her sit once and she hatched 7 of 9 eggs and was a great mom. Temps were in below freezing at night but she kept the eggs and chicks warm and healthy.

I have found that if I want to break her I need to collect eggs often and push her out of the nest several times a day. She growls and throws a fit but eventually gives up after pestering her for a week or so.

That looks like my Lena-all puffed up and p***** off, LOL! The only concern I have is she hasn't laid, and normally she lays one egg a day. She seemed sophie other than the fact that she won't get out of the nest box. I just moved her to the "upstairs" nest box a few minutes ago and man.Oh man she's mad at me.

Well, I'm going to call this broody.Because she definitely is flattening herself out with her head low the way that one picture showed. So it sounds like we want to break her of the broodiness. I'll start taking her out of the nest and putting her on the ground and seeing what happens after a few days.

That sounds broody to me. It is normal to stop laying while she is broody. Don’t be surprised if her comb and wattles lose color and her belly will probably be picked clean of feathers and feel hot to the touch. It’s all part of the process. Good luck breaking her they can be really stubborn and super cranky.

Most effective to put her in a breaker cage, sooner you do it sooner she snaps out of it: https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/broody-breaking-ala-aart.77915/
