What breed of chicken is the best for egg collecting? Why?

What are the best layers?
Well, Leghorns, Sussex, Sex Links, Wyandottes, rhode Island Reds and Plymouth Rocks are good layers.
Breeds like Silkies aren't the best because they are very broody

THE best layers are Red-Sexed Links and Black Stars. Both "breeds" (they're hybrids so they aren't true breeds) lay 5-6 eggs a week and are used throughout the egg industry.
Leghorns are also good (lays white eggs).
If you're looking for more heritage-type: Rhode Island Reds

Mixed breeds can also be very prolific (hybrid vigor), if chosen from the right string. My mixed breed hens lay well. 1 hen lays 5 or 6 large brown eggs per week. I get 3 per day out of 4 hens.
