We're going through our first molt. I'd not gotten any eggs from my 6 hens in about 1-2 months. The egg production had dwindled then went to none. I hadn't even checked the past couple days. I looked today and there were two eggs. One of them is much darker brown than I've ever gotten before.

Is it possible or normal for the egg color to change after a molt, or did my husband just buy a couple brown eggs and play a joke on me?

It's possible. They are most likely larger than the eggs you got before. After molting hens generally lay less but they lay larger eggs.
