Eggs are being laid on the floor - not in the nesting boxes.

I put a roof on the nesting boxes and golf balls in them. No luck. Today I found a green egg next to the garage in the leaves and a brown egg in the garage on a low shelf. Help!! This is crazy. I can't go on a easter egg hunt every day and if the dogs find the eggs in the yard they will for sure eat them. How do I get the hens to lay in the coop? Even the floor is better than all over the yard. I put the found eggs in the nesting boxes. What can I do next? Never had this problem with the BR's.

About one in four eggs makes it to the nest boxes for us. The favorite spots are under the nest boxes or behind the feed cans. Both quiet and dark. Yesterday I didn't find any eggs until I looked up in the eaves and had three waiting for me. I hope that spot doesn't become a favorite.
