Eggs are here :)Paganbirds and MagsC's hatching thread!!UpdateMarch16!

You should have at least one black & white chick without a spot (or a very small spot) on it's head. It would have come from one of the larger light brown eggs. It would be a black australorp.
I have 9 out & one last one zipping.
I just got my last set of eggs. I'm not sure what they all are yet, but there's 3 BLRW.

The ducks are due to hatch on the 18th. When I put the chicks in the brooder this evening, I'll candle them for lockdown. I have an egg going into lockdown tonight, so I'll just set the duck eggs in the hatching tray, too.

Lockdown on the ducks tonight (I think I have this timed right?) Last time I candled the ones I have left looked good. Someone said there is a mortality rate in hatching for crested ducks? So I hope all goes okay.
I had 11 chicks hatch out but one died. It was one I went against what I usually do and helped out.

My others are doing great, moving them into the big brooder today, I had planned on over the weekend but my son was visiting so things were busy around here.
I WILL still get pics sent. There is quite a variety of colors!!! My daughter is totally in love with them and has already been naming them. Marvin...Gertrude...Diablo....

The chick that I helped out died, too.

It was just too weak.

I have my ducks in lockdown. I could see movement in 3 of them this sfternoon. They're due Thursday Morning, so I could have ducklings tomorrow!

Yipes. Maybe I can counting wrong about my ducks???? I was thinking they were due by Friday so lockdown tonight.
I KNEW I should have written it down!!!!

Ok... got some pics the other day. Now I have a chance to post them.
This is one of the speckled sussex chicks. I have 2 chicks from a speckled sussex mama and a BR/blue araucana roo. They hatched out of the light tan eggs with the satin sheen to them. I think I have a roo & a pullet since they look alike, but a little different, too. They mostly look like SS chicks. They have the "BR spot" on top of their heads. They have an araucana pea comb as well.

This is a silver laced wyandotte next to a regular barred rock chick. Both chicks are fathered by the BR/aruacana roo.
Notice the SLW chick has the little white marks on it's back. They're where the "chipmunk" markings would be. Other than those white markings on it's back, the SLW looks just like a BR chick. The black sexlink/BR chicks look just like the regular BR chicks, except that they have a little reddish patch under their chins.

Here's another pic of the SLW's back & its "racing srtipes."

Here's a black sexlink mama/BRauracana roo chick:

This chick is a black australorp chick. It's fatter than the other chicks & doesn't have a spot on it's head. It also has the BA white tips on its wings. This chick is one of my favorites.

Here's two of the white chickies. There is a white rock/Spot cross on the left and a buff orpington/Spot cross on the right.
Notice the Rock is really white and the BO is more golden yellow. Both have spots on their heads. I hope they get their daddy's cuckoo patterning. That would be awesome.

Here are the daddies again: Spot, my white rock/barred rock cross and my barred rock/blue aruacana roo.

Here are a couple of silkies. One looks like it's got a nice little crest going! All of my roos are bearded, so these should be fluffy-faced, too.

l love those pics!!

The silkies look just like the little one we hatched out. Then we have barred rocks and speckled sussex, I am pretty sure.
There are two white ones, one had a black spot above its eye. Then we have a kind of buffish/yellow colored chick with brown markings on its back.
I will try to do individual pics of the 10 tomorrow, maybe you can tell me what you think is what.
smile.png

BUT again, I will have to have someone post them for me.
Off to bed, its been a heck of day.Sigh.

You can email them to me if you like. I had a long day, too. I have to stay up until DH gets home, though. We have to haul water up to the horses before bed & feed all the animals. I'm willing to stay up to do that... since it means:
I can sleep in tomorrow morning!
I don't have to wake up at 5am for work... hooray!
I'm gonna sleep in until, hmmm, at least 8am.
