Well, had six, two had too hard a time getting out of the egg and died, so now four little babies. Amanda took the bottom of the mountain dew carton and we put that under the heat lamp in the brooder. We smooshed up some boiled egg and put the water in a soda cap. So far so good....
Paganbird, pm me, we would like to get more button quail eggs, I was bummed by the spike, but at the same time happy these ones hatched.
Keeping my fingers crossed!!

The tiny little button babies are still doing good. I am not familiar with the colors of buttons, these all seem a brownish except for one that is a little more blonde....the other two that died were very dark, almost a charcoal.

The ducks are the most precious little guys. I am going to check with my aunt tomorrow if I can kife some eggs from her,lol. If hers are laying yet. I hatched a lot of them out for her last year.
The chickies are already getting feathers and I am going to have to put them in a taller brooder. There is one brown one that seems to have already established himself as boss. I WAS going to put the ducks in the chick brooder but it was no dice. The chicks werent having any of them weird things,lol. The brown one was the worst. Of course it was only a couple of minutes and I knew it wasnt going to work out.
I am betting that brown one is a rooster!!!!

I have some eggs going into lockdown tonight.
I think they are the SF from cloverleaf.
I'll be candling to check on all the others as well.

I THINK I might have heard peeping from the incubator I have on lockdown and hope its not just wishful thinking.
This is the same incubator that gave me trouble with the buttons so I am hesitant about hoping too much.

Boy, did I just get a plaesant surprise!!
I went up to my room to get a sweatshirt. We keep our white button pair up in my room. I heard the hen making a weird whistling noise, so I went to have a closer look...
She has 8 chicks!!!
She was sitting on 9 eggs. I noticed she wasn't getting up as much, but I didn't think she'd hatch them. Wow! I only counted 8 heads, so she must be sitting on that last egg.
That's why you didn't get any white chicks, Mags... my white hen was sitting, not laying.
Now what am I going to do with 8 more white buttons?

I didn't clean the quail cage the entire time mama was broody. I didn't want to upset her. They are adorable though - I will sahre their cuteness with you soon!

Are the white ones kind of a blonde color as babies? I thought we had one that was more blonde but he darkened up just a bit as he dried.
