You should get some Vitamins and Electrolytes. I gave that to my call duckling that was very weak when I helped it out. in about 5 hours it was a whole new duckling.
Well...it may be hard to believe - but these two guys are STILL hatching.
They don't seem to be in any distress - just taking their sweet time finishing up.
I'm glad I pipped for them - I highly doubt they'd still be alive if I hadn't. But I don't want to help anymore - I really don't see any reason why they can't get this done themselves.
Plus the membranes just don't seem to be ready yet.
So here is the REAL kicker - I'm leaving for LA on Thursday morning and the snowy call isn't even CLOSE to being ready - no internal pip or anything. My mom (who is pretty clue-less) is going to watch my bator - but I just told her to let things run their course and if they hatch they hatch. I will be back on Sunday at midnight - just long enough to pop my runners and other white calls in the hatcher and then I have to spend the next 5 days on farm inspections in Northeast Colorado. I won't be back until Friday night. My cochins are going into the hatcher Wednesday evening - so I might get to catch them if I'm lucky when I get home.
All in all work is really screwing up my hatching addiction. The nerve.
I had a dream that one hatched so I woke up and ran to the bator - but it hadn't. LOL...but they were just about to bust out.
I felt sorry for them and because the membranes looked ready I helped them both out.
At first I saw the unbilicus and thought that both had the yolk sac exposed and did a quick search on BYC only have dismal results. So I thought - that's not it....check your kids again. I was wrong, no yolk sac - just slimey nasty membranes.
So here they are! Trying to get up but those slimey membranes are still attached a bit. I don't know if I should leave it alone or cut it off - but I'm opting for leave it alone because it is 3 AM my time. They are already drying off and it has been like 5 minutes. Amazing! One has opened its eyes and is trying to get up.
So - there you go. My first time around I picked call ducks to hatch and holy cow - that was dumb.
The barnie smilie and I have now become fast friends.
Now I still have that one snowy egg and 3 more white ones (due next week though) and I'm exhausted just thinking about it - especially since I won't even be here on hatch day.
