I order fertile eggs to put under my broody hen... I no longer have a rooster... but i want to hatch some chicks..... I already have my bator full and can not put anymore in there...so my question is how long will these eggs last and still be viable if i turn them every day and keep them cool...the other eggs are due to hatch around the 12th-14th of sept.
Will they be okay or do I need to purchase another incubator?
Or borrow a Broody hen lol
thank you for any advice
You all always come through for dumb ole me

Thank you!
Chicken addict I have been frantically lookin allover BYC to see if i can find a thread or something to tell me how long
I am letting them rest right now and I will put them in a automatic turner this evening hoping I will find out something..
Thanks again:thumbsup

10 days and every day after that the chances are less and less that the egg will hatch. I did set lots of D'uccles and the older ones hatched as well...they were close to 15 days old. Good luck! If they are ones you REALLY wanted I would buy another incubator

I saw a post not too long ago about someone who left eggs on her counter and forgot about them. A few weeks later she put them in the incubator and she was surprised that some hatched! I'm sorry...I don't remember the details, like how long they were on the counter or what the hatch rate was. I guess buying a new incubator depends on how much you value those eggs... Best of luck to you!

Yep I think your right I just been sittin here think "How important are these eggs" Well my answer was " Very" They are my first attempt at silkies so if they last 10 days that will be at payday so Im buyin a bator if I cant find a Broody.
Thank you all.

do you know anyone you can borrow an incubator from?

maybe you can look on craigslist for someone whos selling one for cheap or see if anyone you know has a broody?

If you have a box, lamp, thermometer and hygrometer not being used right now, maybe you could make a temporary incubator. That way you could start your silkie eggs now and then after you buy a new incubator and get it stabilized you could transfer the eggs over. This way you have a better chance of them hatching. I dont know just a thought. Good luck.
