But the electric wiring option looked so complicated and involved - battery, solar, warning signage, amps, volts, watts, etc., that I just got discouraged. I had power at the coop for lights and water no ice heater via a long heavy duty extension cord hooked up yo to the coop with no problem... How come it's so complicated when I've got the eltricity there already???

It isn't. If you want some help, let me know. I installed poultry netting to enclose 1/3 acre pen for my flock. It's working great. Has deterred more than one dog, including my own from gaining entry to the pen. I have found the fencing down due to something crashing through it after getting zapped overnight. I think it was a deer.
