I have 18 hens (6 White Leghorns, 6 Rhode Island Reds and 6 Dominique's). One or more of them are pecking the eggs. I currently have 9 laying boxes for them, I have oyster shells out for them free choice and I have placed fake eggs in the boxes. I need ideas on what to do to stop the pecking and on how to figure out which one or ones are doing it. I went out today to collect the eggs and found six of them had been pecked.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, more chicken, welcome to BYC! :welcome

I have a couple of hens pecking at their eggs and I've tried a lot of things to get them to stop. Keep the fake eggs in there. Eggshells are hard for a chicken to break through an when they try to break into the wooden egg, their beaks will get sore an they'll stop for a while. Also, you could fill an open egg with mustard. Chickens hate mustard. My birds haven't stopped yet, but I hope this helps a bit.
