Hi, I am a first time owner of a broody hen. She has 13 eggs, which are about to hatch in the next 2-3 days. Within the last 2 days 2 of the eggs have an indented spot on them. For the 1st 1, its was days too early to be hatching, i am pretty sure of that, and now there is another egg with the same indent? It seems as if as the Momma rotates the eggs, they possibly roll, and hit against the nest box. My intuition is to leave it be.... but not sure if that is what i should do? The egg is not open, but pushed in a bit. Any insight would help.

It's possible that she may have pecked them. Did you put the eggs under her ? as in, you know the exact day she started? Because it almost sounds like pips.

x2. Eggs can get dented when the hen shuffles them around and when the hen gets in and out of the nest. I think since you're so close to them hatching, I'd just leave them be. If they are dented, they shouldn't loose too much moisture at this point, so I don't think sealing them would make much of a difference anyway.

Here is how I found one of mine on day 18. It hatched on day 20. Obviously I didn't seal it since it was so broken and dented (it extends almost all the way around). I did move it to my incubator because I was afraid of it getting crushed further.

thanks for the feedback.....i put some wax on the one....and I'm going to just leave it be! We are pretty close to hatching- any day now! She starteD setting on them on 5/30 or 5/31 so we are on day 18/ 19. I am convinced that they are getting a bit smushed with the shuffle of the eggs- the rotation..... Its all very interesting- the other day the hen moved ALL the eggs to the front of the box, and decided to sit on the backwards for a day? Weird birds.....Can not wait for the hatch!

Sounds pretty right on.... I will leave them be, and let nature take its course...any day now Thanks
