Eggs disappearing from under broody hen

I can't find that we have black snakes, but we have racers, gopher snakes, ringneck snakes, king snakes, etc. Some of them do grow fairly large, and some of them do eat eggs. I looked through a herpetology website that is the stuff of nightmares.
