I got my guineas as babys last summer. Never saw an egg until this past weekend. I just checked their nest box in their coop and counted 9 eggs. They have the run of the property so I am happy they chose the coop to hide their eggs.

Anyhow seems every 10 seconds I see my chickens breeding. I just realized I have never seen the guineas breed. I would like for her to hatch these eggs but not sure if they are fertile.

I also ordered assorted color guinea eggs for hatching that will arrive in a month but I am happy i found some Eggs.

So how come I never see them breeding?

Went out today there are 2 more eggs than yesterday so i have more than 1 girl.

I read somewhere that once the nest has a good load of eggs in it they will begin to sit.

Is this true? 11 eggs and counting im wondering when one will sit. I have a hen that will sit on them today in the chicken coop i may give the eggs to her

Not all guinea hens will go broody. If you have a broody chicken and want to hatch the eggs, give them to the broody. Just make sure that you do not clean out the guinea nest or they will most likely decide to lay somewhere else.

Some guineas may use a communal nest to lay 20 to 40 or even more eggs before going broody. These huge nests are not always productive since many eggs don't end up being covered properly.

Thank you. I have a buff orphington whos been broody over 2 months. Didnt want chicks in the cold so every day i take her eggs and kick her out. Other chickens use the nest and the next day shes back on the nest. Day in day out.

Im going to give her half thr guinea eggs right now and let her complete her mission

The guinea eggs are really tiny so I gave her 8 eggs. Shes a big fat buff O she should be able to handle 8 guinea eggs. I slid them under her i think she understood what was happening as she used her beak to slide each egg into place.

Just hope they are fertile for the hens sake shes been determined a long time

She can probably easily handle a dozen guinea eggs.
