Eggs for food banks

I deliver mine to a food pantry each week. They love them!

They serve meals three time a week so they use them in the kitchen. I ask them to save the cartons so they can be reused.

If you can find a pantry that does meals they might take them. The larger places deal in bulk and are government regulated so they can't deal on a small scale with farm eggs.

Bless you chicken people who donate eggs, vegetables and time to food banks, etc. Makes me proud to be associated with you.

Yes! Definitely! I am very proud of the generous nature of backyard chicken raisers. I came online today looking to find out if I could donate eggs to a local food bank. I was going to start a thread about it, but my initial google search lead me here before I could. Of course. Our hens are just starting to lay, but when they really get going I'd love to donate a certain percentage to local people who want pastured backyard eggs but can't afford them. I've gotten great info about how to do that here. Thank you!

I give mine to the battered woman's shelter. These are women staying there with their kids. They cook group meals and the eggs are a big hit. They operate on a shoestring.

My local food bank won't take backyard chicken eggs.

. I also give a lot of eggs to my local firehouse since those guys really appreciate them & it's very convenient to me.
What a GREAT idea. I have been giving away my extras t neighbors, but even they can't take them all when all my girls start laying. I wouldn't have enough to make a dent at the food banks, but our volunteer fire dept is small and I now know where I will take my extras. THANKS

There was once a great storm by the sea shore which washed thousands of starfish up on the beach. A little boy was walking along and throwing them, one by one, back into the water.

A man approached him and asked him why he would do this..there were so many he couldn't possibly make a difference.

The little boy replied "I can make a difference to THIS one" and continued about his mission.

I heard that story long ago and it really stuck with me. There are SO many needy causes in the world that we can't possibly help all of them. It's simply a fact, but I personally feel that any act of kindness is worth the effort...you may not be able to affect the world, but you can affect one, or two, or three...and every single little bit helps. And I admire everyone who makes that effort! Way to go, y'all!

Our small local food pantry is part a larger coop, but when I called to ask if they would accept farm fresh eggs they were thankful and enthusiastic.

While we couldn't supply all the eggs needed for the pantry, but every week since we started we have been able to double or more the amount that I guessimated during that first call.

God gave the increase, and the hens have been willing. We are truly blessed.
