Eggs for food vs eggs for chicks...sound off please

Have you made alfredo from scratch? It's simple and so much better than the garbage you buy in a jar. I really like to make it with grana padano (or american grana to save a bit of cash - I know is not the same...) instead of parmesan. Ultimately, it is butter, cream, cheese and garlic. Add a pinch of salt, some pepper and some herbs... bon appetit!
Yup - that's pretty much what we do, only we don't put the cheese in the sauce. It gets shaved on top, right at the table. Now you're makin' me hungry! Mangia!

I make it with fresh garlic I roast and do put cheese in (NOT from a plastic green jar!) but I am a cheesaholic so I add to the top too! Something wonderful about the smell of fresh shaved parm or romano right by your nose at the table! Swimming in that aroma makes the meal!

Of course a sauce inspired by my name can only be made from scratch from the finest ingredients.

Also yes "free range" "cage free" means they are not in a cage but they are also kept by the thousands, the allowable space for a commercial hen is the size of a sheet of paper...a SHEET OF PAPER, THATS LIKE US BEING ALLOWED TO LIVE OUT OUR LIVES ON A BATH TOWEL.:barnie:he.....also the other poster is right it could be 10,000 hens with a 10x10 run so maybe a few see daylight... I guess it's a smidge better than battery hens but I still feel bad:th......
I'm so loving the convos!!!! And info backed up with the receipts lol :celebrate

There are some older threads from BYC members who hatched eggs from Trader Joe's fertile eggs. If I remember correctly some of the chicks were RIR's. I'm sure if you did a search on Trader Joe's you can find the threads.

Lol yes this thread has multiple convos going on now. Too funny!

Yup the food industry is a pathetic chain of misery for animals. Once again I am blessed to live in a farming area and know people all around to buy our meats from fresh off the farm. And the flavors are so far above mass produced foods that it's rarely about "better" flavors anymore and more about "true" flavor. Yes we still have our nitrites at BBQs and do buy (decent quality) chicken nuggets from time to time. I won't lie. But I am proud to be part of the home raised food crowd to be sure!

Amen to that:cool::cool:

I'm happy to live in a small farming town...And I'm so lucky to have acres and acres to do what I want... And you're right everything does taste so much better one day hopefully I want to go completely organic and at least more than half sustainable on my own year round.:bun:jumpy

Yes I do remember that years back... I think they were Rhode island red and if I'm not mistaken Leghorn.

I think you are correct. If I recall correctly, the Leghorn may have been a mix because it had a few black spots hatched from Trader Joe's fertile eggs. I have both SC White Leghorns and RC Dark Brown Leghorns. I would not recommend these breeds as a starter flock. They are flighty. Of course there is always an exception.

Yup, yup, yup. I get my beef straight from my sister's dairy farm. It's gotten so that, when I pick up my meat, I ask if it was a "Name" or a "Number." Numbers are good, names mean that it was one of the registered Guernseys, many f which our 4Hers show every year. I still have trouble eating someone I taught how to walk on a halter ... except for a very small few, who I would readily barbecue!
