Eggs from an old lady???

OMG!!! They are sooo cute!! I would go ahead and try to hatch some NOW!! Mainly because I love babies and can you just imagine how cute their babies would be??? If you do hatch some I want to see pics please!

Mine hens are 6 years and still lay eggs, but less than they use to. My friend had a 15 year old hen that laid about a dozen eggs a year. So, I would think about hatching some eggs from them in the near future.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

I had no idea "Serama" had ever been a taboo word. I also did not know they were not a recognized breed. Good to know because my son wants to show them next year at the Youth Fair. I guess he will have to pick some different chickens for that. I have quite a few breeds he can chose from. They are mostly chicks still, but we will figure something out.

I LOVE SERAMAS!!!!!! I might buy more eggs when I get back from out of state and collect up some Goldie eggs too for hatching. The gene pool is very small here in the US because of bird flu, but I think I can get some "cousins" rather then full siblings. Some day we will have a bigger house and they can be our "House Chickens"

I hatched out only a few eggs of theirs a few months ago but all but one was killed by a weasel the first night I put them in the out side cage.

The one I have left is a cockerel. Cute as a button too. His name is Sweetie Pie. He is so tiny and cute and so sweet that he made me think about hatching out more. I don't think I want to sell them but just have them running around looking adorable.

Here is Sweetie Pie next to the feed store bantams I got just a few days before the Seramas hatched. He is in the middle next to the bantam cochin and the Seabrights.

Bantams in general are not as long lived as large fowl-if you have a 5 year old that's still laying regularly you should hatch her eggs now while you have the chance.
The reason the other forum banned Serama talk is that people were geting WAY TOO EMOTIONAL in the discussion.

Really? Now that I think about it I have never seen any Seramas at any shows. I have been to a few with my son just looking and never saw any.
So, when we are ready to show, I think I will look into it farther and make sure Seramas are able to be entered.
I have some Norwegian Jaerhon and some Cream Brabanters I got 2 weeks ago specifically for him to show, so if the Seramas are out, he still will have something to enter.

I saw my first bantams a few years ago at a 4-H fair and I was amazed at how small they were and also how gorgeous the cockerals were. I can't even begin to imagine how beautiful and tiny a Serema would be if I saw it in person.

A friend of mine showed his Seramas at the show last Fall. I don't know the specifics on it and my internet is up and down right now so I can't search for anything right now to show you. heh

That's because very few people even have seramas. They're a relatively new breed to the US (imported in 2000) and there is so much drama surrounding them right now that most people would rather stick with a similar breed that they can win with, such as oegb. Then there's the whole crossbreeding thing, a lot of breeders are doing it, and you never know what you're getting unless you deal with a reliable source. Hence the taboo.
