Most of the eggs I got were from Ebay. It depends on the seller. I read all feedback before deciding to bid. If feedback is poor I don't bid if it is good I will bit. It's stilla crap shoot on shipped eggs because things could be damaged on the inside of the egg from shipping even if you have no broken ones.
It really depends on which seller you buy from. My experience with eggs from E-bay so far is: I am currently hatching some Muscovy eggs I got from a gal in Pennsylvania, and even though shipping took extra time and was rough, I have 2 hatched so far out of 10. I got some Buttercup eggs, which developed all along, but then got mauled by hatching quail in the hatcher, and ended up with 0 -- not the shippers fault, by any means. I got some Golden Campine eggs, one of which broke in shipping (not too unusual). They are in the incubator now. Any shipped eggs, count it a good day when you get a 50% hatch.
There are eggs for sale on E-bay from very VERY professional folk, and eggs for sale from mama with a couple of mixed breed chickens in the yard --
On the other hand, I got eggs from BYC folk -- Button quail eggs from Indiana-- package delayed in shipping and eggs handled so roughly in shipping that one egg, in the midst of EXQUISITE packing, still broke. I got 7/12 on that hatch -- still better than 50%. I got Ameracauna eggs from Washington State -- arrived here in Virginia in TWO DAYS! They are in the incubator now. I got Welsummer eggs from Michigan. They only spent 3 days in shipping, and are in the incubator now. All these items were VERY carefully packed.
So, I guess I would say, I prefer to buy from BYC folk if they have the eggs I want -- they usually care very much about their chickens and their eggs.
Good luck making your decision. Watch out for the shipping charges on the e-bay auction items -- some are very high.
All my hatches this year came from ebay. Good feedback is crucial although I've found that the only thing you can really leave feedback on is the quality of packing and the lack of broken eggs. My first hatch wasn't so good, only 4 hatched out of 24 but my homemade incubator had some wild temp swings so I didn't blame the sellers. My second batch was better, got 4 out of 12. My current hatch is looking the best, most likely because I finally got my incubator dialed in perfectly, out of 24 eggs I'm seeing 16 developing on day 14. Shipped eggs are a gamble but I think it's worth it to get the hard to find breeds you can't find locally. If you don't get a great hatch this time just do another batch til you get enough chicks. I love using the incubator, makes me feel like a kid.
I've had a wonderful experience with the two batches of eggs that I purchased on Ebay. One batch was a dozen blue, black splash orpingtons, and the other batch was a dozen delaware eggs. I ended up with 9 or the orpington and 9 of the delawares hatching.
Don't be afraid to ask questions about how the seller packages, and also it's important that you have them mark the outside of the box "fragile, hatching eggs". I also think it's a good idea that the eggs be wrapped in aluminum foil to protect from postal xray machines. Good luck...

I agree. The fact that someone is active on this forum sharing experience and getting advice is a pretty good indication that they care very much about their birds.
I prefer to get both hatching eggs and live birds locally or from someone here on BYC - I want to buy from people who carefully select their breeders to produce the healthiest, best quality chicks - not from some ebayer who pushes out as many auctions as they can in a season.
That's not to say that there aren't some terrific sellers on ebay, but be very wary, look for feedback, and make sure their pictures are real representations of what you're getting, not just stock-photos.
Good luck finding some hatching eggs! If you don't mind me asking, what breed(s) were you looking at?
I don't think there is any more or less likelihood of problems or success buying off Ebay verses any other website. My one experience buying eggs off Ebay was pretty positive. The only negative experience I have had buying eggs was off of Eggbid, but again- I don't think it has anything necessarily to do with the website per se.
