Eggs in Compost Heap?

hey--eggshells are fine for the compost pile--SUPER, in fact, for your soil. Many places are deficient in calcium, and they are wonderful. However, I would try to find a better use for the insides. The suggestion of feeding them to the chickens is great. The food bank is even better. Or--you could try making a quiche or angel food cake??? (mmmmmm) or how about making those items and giving them away/selling them?
just a suggestion. =]

Go to the reciepe section here on BYC. There are lots of suggestions on how to use up eggs in cooking. Bake break make noodles, cakes, cookies and so much more. I can't wait to be flooded with eggs. Ofcourse my waist might not like it but who cares I am married.

you can smash up the eggs and good them and feed them back to your chickens as a good source of calcium (just make sure you cook them this will keep them from wanting to eat raw eggs)

When we get overrun with eggs we... well we make egg salad and things that take a lot of eggs ohhh and we make a butt load of cookies LOL we also sell eggs, and send my dad back to the city with a few dozen.

My dogs love them in their food and it is a good source of protein and calcium. I blend shell and all. I feed my chickens whatever I have, like flax seeds, yogurt, water or broth, olive oil, whole eggs raw in blender and mix in their laying mash. They love it.

Feeding them back to your flock, donating them or incorporating them in meals are all great ideas!

Sometimes I can have up to 10 dozen on hand and the next thing I know I am waiting for them to lay more. I don't know if you celebrate the up coming Holiday but you could boil them up and decorate them. I also do deviled eggs, pickled eggs, quiche, omelettes, cakes, cookies, potato or egg salad! There are so many things you can do.

If you belong to a church or other group maybe you could donate them for a breakfast or something.

You don't have to store them in your fridge. There are a lot of members here who store theirs in a bowl on the counter. As long as its not 95 degrees every day they will be fine. They store unwashed in the fridge for a long time.

Cool thanks. I'm going to go ahead and boil or scramble them and feed them to my chickens. They won't start eating their own eggs if I do that, will they?

If you work outside the home or have kids in school or your husband works out side the home you can always make a few batches of cookies and have them take them in to share it will brighten up everyones day and get rid of some of your eggs. Also if you make something like a quishe you can make extras and freeze them and reheat them for later as time saver meals.
