Eggs in incubator 8/22. Anyone else putting eggs in?

Sadly, our electic company is not known for customer service... And since, it appears they are going to be tree trimming in a big way (about 3 jillion trees are tagged) so that we don't lose power in the dead of winter, I should be glad. Between solar heat and thermal mass which I can set up in the bator, I think the eggs will be fine. I'm just thinking I'll need to reschedule the 4H meeting, since no A/C or running water could be a problem.

How's your summer thunderstorm going? I want one! or two.

Meh. About six inches of rain in the past 24 hours or so. Hubby went and checked up at the highway around five hours ago, and the water was coming over the road. High tide isn't until sometime in the morning, and the river won't crest until some time Monday.

We're pretty high here, though, just can't really get out. I mean, it's not so deep that we need a johnboat, just deeper than I'd want to cross in the van.

We're about five miles from the beach here, but much closer to the tchoutacabouffe (CHOO-tuh-kuh-buff) river and the back bay, so we get water from both when it rains a lot. Wish we'd had it spread out over the summer, though, instead of all in one lump!

I just found out I have 4 wrigglers now and I was sure I had 3 wrigglers and one that had quit! Sooooo pleased that the 4th one is good!

Well some good and bad in the past couple days.
Lost some eggs, so I am down to 11 in the incubator from 20. But thats ok, still got 11 going strong.

And one of my two chickens just laid her first egg.

And a week earlier then I thought she would. Guess thats what happens when you name her after food.

I'm late to the party, but we let a broody pullet start setting on the 22nd. We gave her 12 eggs, but one got pushed to the side so she has 11. She's being a great broody. We haven't candled the eggs, time is short and the pullet gets real upset with us bothering her. I decided we'd just let nature take it's course and see what happens.

We've been collecting eggs to put in an incubator in a couple more days.

I found the thread before, but forgot to post that I put in about a dozen eggs on 8/21. They'll be going to the hatcher later this week. I candled them when I moved the 8/18 eggs to the hatcher and all but one (one of my beginner Sebright eggs) looked good. The other Sebright egg is developing as well! Good luck to everyone hatching here!

Last week countdown!!
