Thanks JJMR794 for letting me know that. I hatched out some last year and that was my first time with quail. Let them sit for about 2 days before going to incubator. but wasn't sure just how long was TO long.

WITH COTURNIX YOU'LL FIND BEST HATCHABILITY IF SET BETWEEN 3 AND 5 DAYS OF AGE, THAT WILL MAINTAIN THROUGHOUT DAY 7, HATCHABILITY BEGINS TO FADE AWAY AFTER DAY 7 AND BEGINS TO FALL SHARPLY AT DAY 10, AFTER DAY 14 THEY ARE SLING SHOT AMMO FOR NEIGHBOR'S BARKING DOGS. (THESE WORK BEST IF AGED AT ROOM TEMP FOR ABOUT 14-18 DAYS... MUCH MORE THAN 18 AND THEY MAY BACKFIRE ON YOU WHEN RELEASING THE SLING

CRAZY BUT THEY ACTUALLY DO BETTER IF AGED 48-72 HRS BEFORE SETTING... DONT ASK ME WHY? I HAVE NO IDEA...

JJMR794 you should not have even given me that idea of the sling shot and neighbors barking dog.

Not only does my neighbors dog run free and decide to come to my house and bark at her own shadow....she has acquired a stray friend that is twice as bad. Not to mention the OTHER side effects of doggy poo all in my front yard!!!

Poor mail man around here would LOVE that idea too!!!! I may have to hook him up with a few!!!

I see payback in the near future!!!!

Same policy here. I love dogs, but only the ones that stay off of my property.

Dang where are you, down the street. Sounds like my neighborhood.

So far, my eggs haven't made it off the counter into the refrigerator. Actually they don't make it past 7 days. Unless I hard boil and peel them and put them in the frig for eating later.
But I do seem to be acquiring more hens lately, so this info may come in handy. I am thinking if they ever make it into the frig after a few weeks, I would probably float them in water and if they float, into the trash instead of a bowl. But then I toss any that float when I hard boil them, too.

Some of you actually soft boil quail eggs? How in the world do you get them out of the shell without the shells crushing all over the place?

FOR CLARIFICATION THATS S AS IN SHOOT + S AS IN SHOVEL + S AS IN SHUT UP!

BEEN FIXING PROBLEMS FOR WAY TOO LONG... I TEND TO TAKE A PERMANENT FIX ROUTE MYSELF... BUT THATS JUST ME, I DONT RECOMMEND MY RECOURSE THERAPY FOR JUST ANYONE. AND IT CERTAINLY ISNT FOR THE FRAIL...

NOW MY PROPERTY IS FENCED... AS IS THE NEIGHBOR'S WHEN THEY BOTHER TO CLOSE THE GATE... I STARTED WITH PAINTBALLS, WHICH WORK WELL, BUT GET EXPENSIVE AFTER A WHILE AND YOU HAVE TO KEEP FOOLING WITH FILLING AIR BOTTLES AND WHATNOT... FIGURED THE NEIGHBORS WOULD NOTICE THEIR DOGS LOOKING LIKE RAINBOW BRIGHT AND GET WISE AND STOP IT... BUT NO I HAVE DENSE NEIGHBORS. BUT MAKE NO MISTAKE THEY NOTICED THAT ROTTEN STENCH!
