I've been always curious that if I leave the eggs in the nest will it encourage broodiness in my quail hens.
IMG20200716153913.jpg does anyone else have had any such experience? I am already hatching quail eggs in the incubator and i am thinking if I leave the eggs in the nest, will iy encourage any one of my quails go broody? so that when my chicks hatch, i would sneak them under the moma quail. If anyone has experience, thwn please do reply, and what are your thoughts on this.

With chickens, it does work sometimes.
I imagine with quail it might too.

Coturnix quail have been domesticated for such a long time that broodiness has been bred out. Even if one happened to start sitting, they almost never sit full term. I left eggs with one of my bobwhite hens because she was laying in the nest, she laid 15 eggs and say for two days. Then she started trying to eat them. If I hadn't been there when she tried to eat them I would have an annoying egg eater on my hands. It's fun to watch broodies, but if you want chicks you'll have to go with the incubator. Good luck! No harm in trying (unless she eats them) lol.

Yes, the eggs are already in the incubator. Going to hatch on 23rd. I want a mama quail so I don't have to care for them😁. Even if she sits for two days, all I have to do is to just put the babies under her(ofcourse at night).

It's not that simple. She may not want to care for them and could kill them

Yeah, I don't really think that will work, like JacinLarkwell said. She would have to sit for at least a week.

Well, there is still one week more for the babies to come. It is not certain, but is possibe that my hens might want to sit the eggs. I let them roam freely in the front yard. Their place is more natural. So hoping to see my hens sit the eggs. As i already said, if the hen doesn't take care, then i will take care of them myself.

Let us know if she does! You never know. Sone hens have more instinct than others.
