Eggs in Winter

My pullets will be ready to lay their first egg in December. Will they or will they wait till spring?
Living in Tampa Fl. December is not too cold around 75-80 daytime and nights 50-60 degrees. In Feb it could go down in the 30's but usually in the mid 40's. Daytime temp. are all over the place here. 50's to 80's. February is a weird month.

I am not an expert as this is my first year having chickens but I have heard as that as long as they get plenty of light in the winter (In Minnesota it is a little different we need heat!!) that they will lay in the winter!

I had 2 pullets start last December. I do have light and heat in the coop. They started the second week of December and have layed 6-7 eggs a week since. A RIR and a Barred x White Rock.

Some are more sensitive to how many hours of light per day they are getting (and you can use a light to get around this). I'd think that Florida is warm enough that they'd lay through the winter, but I don't live there.

I'm in Maryland, and ours slow down a bit in the winter, but they still lay.
