So I hear that chickens will lay eggs the color of their earlobes. Is that true? If it is at what age does the color become apparent?

Generally it's true, but it's not a hard and fast rule. I think I've read that will hold true about 75% of the time.

There are many breeds of chickens that don't lay eggs the same color as their ear lobe.
