Eggs not hatching

Is it possible the shells are too hard?
I have a chick that the shell open you can see the chick but shes not coming out, its been about 20 hours. The feathers already look like feathers.

Should I assist in the cracking of the shell? that sounds like it would be a rookie mistake, which I am.

It's possible. I give 24 hours from pip to zip. If you're past that point you may be in assisted hatch territory. There are some good threads in this forum to help walk you through each step.

What is pip and zip, is that cracked to out?

Internal pip: chick breaks into the air sack inside the egg
External pip: chick breaks through the shell
Zip: Chick starts to break out, undoing a zipper in a circle around the egg until it is out.

When referring to pip and zip that is external pip to chick fully hatching

Ok, so the most recent chick is not doing too well. She/he is very weak, the others were picking on she/he. But we have a new kitten and the kitten had a hurt leg, and comforted the little guy, by giving him/her licks. Here's a pic of them cuddling. BFF's

the little guy is not doing well, he is so weak. This morning he was lying on his side with one leg up, when I picked it up, it got alert.
My wife thinks we may have to put him/her out of their misery. I cant do that.

I wouldn’t assist because you could have a chance of rupturing the blood vessels. Hopefully it hatches. Some of mine take 48 hours or more.
