Eggs on slaughter

Why doy old hens who have stopped laying sometimes have eggs inside on slaughter?

That means they still had eggs to lay. Maybe they were taking a break from laying or maybe they were still laying. A hen only stops laying when they are out of eggs to lay. How old were the hens?

Take them and cook them with your homemade noodles cooked in chicken broth... my father in law says they are great.. i haven't had a chance to try them yet...
