Hello,
We were gifted Japanese quail eggs which are in the incubator as we speak. We have no experience with backyard poultry (thought we were going to start with chickens, but apparently not) and I'm not sure what to expect. Are Japanese quail typically raised for egg laying or meat? I'm crossing my fingers that it's egg laying. If not, they may just end up being spoiled pets.

Thanks!

both! if you're not comfy growing them for meat the hens will lay (starting around week 6) just like chickens! cute little eggs too! i'm just starting too and there's a lot of info here. lots of people have posted pics of their coops which are a little different from chicken coops, so i'd check that out. please let us know how your hatch goes! good luck!

Thank you! That's good news! I have my research cut out for me, I guess!
