Eggs rotting quickly

Hi there! :frow First off, let me list a few things about their egg laying lately:

Almost of my hens are molting, so I am not getting many eggs.
I am feeding layer feeder and grower feed free choice.
Egg shells are still extremely strong (as before the molting began.)

Every egg in our "Egg Cabinet" is not older than a week. But for some odd reason, every time we crack an egg its brown and runny :sick It smells weird, but not actually-rotten.

What is causing this? Anybody have any ideas? Thanks in advance :D
 
Have you checked one straight out of the chicken?

Eggs can pick up odors and tastes from being stored near other smelly stuff.

Feeding chickens things like fish, or fish meal, or lots of onions or garlic can make the eggs smell and taste bad. So can certain forages. What are they eating?

Some birds just lay bad eggs no matter what.
 
Yes, I have. They are fine when they come straight out of the hen. Even an egg from yesterday was brown!

They aren't stored near anything that is smelly.

I am not feeding them anything like that, they just forage on our 23 acres all day. They mostly just stick to eating grass, weeds, and moss.

They have never laid bad eggs, just not sure why they are now.
 
So it only takes a day after being laid for an egg to go 'bad'?
Can you post a pic of a bad egg?
Are they all bad?
What is the 'egg cabinet'?

Who knows what they might have gotten into while free ranging.
Confining them for a week or two would tell if it's something out in range area.
 
Can you post any pictures of a bad egg? Is it every egg or just the ones from a certain hen? Eating a weed called shepard's purse or things with cottonseed oil have been thought to cause a dark or blue-green yolk. An old article below from 1925 describes egg that are green or olive color with an odd odor from eating alfalfa or certain spring weeds. Here are a few things to read:

Its usually just 2 or 3 days and they're bad.

I'll try and get a pic, they're not laying much because they're molting.

They're not ALL bad, its usually just 2 or 3 eggs in a batch (which consists of 5 to 6 eggs everyday).

Its a cabinet we have in our basement where we keep our eggs.

I'll get a picture. I'm not sure, I haven't been keeping track of who lays what. We do have lots of shepard's purse around here though.
