Saturday, eggs would move around----wiggle!!!! Nothing has happened since.

Not sure when hatch date is.......Mom killed on June 15. (Peafowl) When should I begin to panic?????

Help!! and Thanks!!!!

Did you increase the humidity when they were wiggling? If not, they may have gotten too dry.

You can try floating the eggs in a bowl of warm water for a minute or two, to see if they move. If the babies are still alive, they'll probably cause the eggs to jerk a little in the water.

What's your best guess about the age of the eggs, and how many days do peacocks take?

People always ask when they should panic. Here's my answer: NEVER.
No point in panicking at all. Either they're ok and will hatch, (even if they need intervention) or they're dead and nothing you can do. Panic is not helpful, in either case.

That isn't meant to sound harsh, I see that question a lot, and it seems.....well, let's just say, not helpful.

I hope your eggs are still viable. Did you candle to see if you can see any movement or veins? If you see any veining at all, it's alive. Shine the light down through the air cell, and look closely at the upper edges of the dark area. Near hatching, it can be completely dark, and you may not see veins, but still have a viable chick. You can tap them gently while hold them up to your ear, and see if you hear any peeping.

In any case, I'd give them at least a week past when you think they're due, at the latest, just in case. Unless they start to smell bad, or ooze. When that happens, you know for sure there's nothing alive in that egg except microbes.

Good luck, and I hope your eggs hatch.

I once paniced and killed all my peeps. Helping them out should be a last resort. For me it led to a night of heart ache. They all died, so now I let mother nature take her course and she almost always come thru. Of course there has been a time or two that I needed to intervene.
good luck!

Thank you for all the advice. Tried the bowl of warm water---but not very hopeful. No peeping either!!!!!!!

But you are right----no reason to panic. I just really wanted atleast one to hatch since Mom was killed.

Again Thanks !!!!!!!!!

Ooops I have candled but again you are right very hard to see at this point. My best guess they should have hatched yesterday!!!! But I am still waiting and wondering!!!!!!!

Oh, dear. I was hoping you see some encouraging signs. Well, I'd let them stay in the 'bator for several more days, anyway, just to be sure. Who knows, you may get a pleasant surprise. I sure hope so! Is your humidity around 55%? That's low enough not to drown them if it's early, and high enough to prevent shrink wrap if it's hatch time.

Thanks for everyone's advice and help. Candled eggs last night. Looked different and not good. Opened them up. Let's just say not a very pleasant experience......I don't think they could get out of the membrane---very tough---atleast to me.

But again thanks !!!!!

That's too bad, I'm sorry to hear you didn't have any hatches. Do you have any local sources of more eggs, or some peachicks?

One of my blue hen's had one chick on her own. My Cameo hen is sitting on three eggs. I also had a friend of mine bring me three baby blues. So it's not that I don't have more..........these were from a male silver pied and mom was white. But again thanks for everything !!!!!!
