Eggs that are roosters or hens?

What the old timers go by...the more round the egg, the odds are it's a pullet. The more pointed the egg, the odds are its a roo. I tried it out on my last hatch, without knowing before hand, and it worked out just like they said it would. My two pointy eggs turned out to be roos and the rounder ones were pullets.

For whatever it's worth, I work from home too and I think that the noise is relaxing. Especially at this time of year, with the leaves changing and a cool nip in the air. That old rooster hops up on the fence and lets the world know what's up. That just stirs my blood. Distracting? Maybe. But when you get to the point that such a sound is distracting, maybe you really need to be distracted.
