I adopted 2 chickens and they each lay 1 egg per day on average. their eggs have an unpleasant aftertaste and I fo nt know why! Can't really describe the taste, but, it's bad I feed them lots of protein, veggies, some fruit - not their favorite. I eat them pretty quickly, so, I don't think they're rotten....

Any ideas or tips?

:welcome What protein are you adding, and how much. Additives/treats should make up less than 10 % of their diet, and can impact the flavor of the eggs.

I give them a handful of meal worms in the morning and about a 1/4 cup boiled ground beef three or four ti mes per week. I do have them on a high protein feed right now as I was advised that is best during moulting. perhaps it's too much....

Thank you for responding!

Try feeding them exclusively chicken feed for a couple weeks and see if it doesn't stop. It won't hurt them at all to have a limited diet when that food is meant to be a complete diet. If all is well then, you can re-add the treats one at a time to see if one of them is to blame.

Thank you! I will try this

@sourland you seem to know a lot about egg production, and my first flock hasn't laid a single egg yet (not old enough) I've heard rumors that if you feed your chickens garlic and herbs, the egg will taste like garlic and herbs, is this true?
