Eggs with freckles

My Easter Egger lays brown eggs, sometimes they have freckles but never a pretty blue, green or pink egg. Did I buy a clunker?

There are lots of clunkers in the realm of EEs.
They've been crossed with other breeds so much, the blue egg gene is likely gone.

2x EE eggs can be a variety of colors depending on the breeding pairs. Think that's how "they" came up with the name Easter Eggers.

It's true, Easter Eggers can lay almost any color egg. I have two who lay light brown eggs.

Of my three, I get one Olive, pointy egg, an aqua rounded egg and a large, light brown, oblong egg.

In the picture above, my Welsummer eggs have freckles. One, much more than the other. It doesn't hurt anything and I think they are pretty. I wish one of my EEs would lay freckled eggs!

Thank you! We had two pink eggs with purple freckles, but before I could figure out what amazing bird was laying them, she quit.

'Speckled' eggs can happen for several different reasons...very few, if any, of which are a 'problem'.

Can be caused by:
Excess or uneven pigment coating.
Excess or uneven cuticle(bloom).
Excess calcium deposits.
Porous eggs can appear speckled.
Some birds lay them consistently, some only once in awhile.
The pigment or bloom can change appearance when wet, then change back when dry again.

As long as bird is getting a good diet and is healthy in every other way, it is no cause for concern.
