I was wondering if anyone else had seen hens lay eggs without shells? I had one the other day, and I was wondering if it is just a new layer who hasn't worked out the kinks yet, or if I should be concerned. I also get some green eggs with a "heavy" place in the shells, and some are even wavy. I guess I should say that I have two ages of hens, my year olds have been laying since August and no oddities there. My fall chickens are the just starting to lay, and they are the ones I am getting odd eggs from. One more thing, I have a Brahma hen that is very large and my comet hen is plucking her feathers, anyone have suggestions on this?? Thanks for your help!

Sounds like the girl is working out her system is all. I had one with no shell and quite a few with weak shells. They settled into a groove in a month or so and get plenty of oyster shell and layer pellets.
All will be good. One of my new EE ladies has calcium "bubbles" on her shell clustered like barnicles on a boat.

Thanks I feel better! I was hoping that was all it was. They do get plenty of oyster shell and are eating the purina pellets, so I know all is good there. I just wish I knew what to do about the feather picking I have going on!
