This morning I found 2 eggs with paper thin shells one is still in the shell and the other is busted it was so thin. I have 2 that are 5 and 1/2 mos old that have been laying for 1 month now and a younger one who is 4 1/2 months that has not started laying yet. What do you think happened? I only got 1 egg yesturday from my 2 that are laying regularly. Anyway should I be alarmed? My husband said maybe I am feeding them too much lettuce I have given them 2 heads withing 3 days? Other than that they eat grass all day and their normal feed, and sometimes my left over dinner stuff.

Thanks for your advice,

Do you have oyster shell available for them if they want it? They could be eating too much food without calcium, and not enough layer feed. In this case if they have oyster shell on the side they will balance out by eating it.

Also, sometimes birds that are stressed will do this. Any new stress in their life??

I think it could be your 4-1/2 month old's first eggs. My leghorn's first 2 eggs were like that, but worse! One had a soft shell that burst when it landed outta her, and the other one had no shell at all! Both of those were the same day. Two days later, though, she started laying perfect eggs with little white, hard shells & has given us an egg a day since.
