Hi all,
Got a few laying hens from a local breeder and when her eggs come out, they have some raised hard white spots on them that look like maybe calcium deposits? I am just guessing because I have NO clue.
Thanks for any help. Sorry no pic, I am worming them and threw it away before I thought to take one.

If that is what they are, are they ok? Ok to eat?

sorry smcdermott, i don't have an answer, but do share a similar question. aug. 2 i started my backyard chicken project w/3 laying hens; 2 RIR approx. 1 1/2 y.o. (Dora & Nora), & 1 sexlink (Cora), about 2 1/2. in addition to being the oldest, Cora is also low man on the totem pole. this is what her eggs typically look like, tho she did have 1 soft shell about 2 weeks ago. all 3 hens came from the same gentleman, & i was told they were in molt at the time; their bums were missing feathers, & while the 2 RIR's have improved, Cora - not so much.
they are being fed Dumor laying pellets, & every couple of days i throw in a little crushed eggshell (about 1 egg worth) w/their feed for good measure.
do your eggs look anything like these? & did you happen to see this? https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/common-egg-quality-problems
hope you don't mind me tacking onto your thread ~ maybe together we'll get a reply.

Here are more links that talks about common egg quality problems. There are different things that could be the calcium deposits on the shell. Those eggs are perfectly safe to use. Many of us see bits of excess calcium.

Sparx you can look through those photos too. See if you can find photos that match what you are seeing.

I have the same thing happening yo my BB Red old English game bantam hens. The eggs have raised white bumps sometimes crazy shapes not just circle bumps. They lay white eggs and they taste fine, look great and the quality is great. But there's white bumps on the egg shells.

appreciate the replies! looking forward to checking out those links ~ am having fun learning about this stuff.
