I have 9 hens and sometimes I’m only getting 4 to 5 eggs addy sometimes 3 shouldn’t I be getting 9? Is there something I’m not giving them?

Hi there, hope you are enjoying BYC! :frow

What is the age and breed of your hens? What do you feed on a regular basis including treats and supplements? Any free range hidden nest?

Many dual purpose hens or blue egg layers will only lay every other day at best.. once mature.
2 years they have crumble and scratch for Daily food treats I give the mill worms ground up broccoli or watermelon when in season I’ve checked for hidden asked as I let them out of their coop in the range on our grass in the front yard and backyard but not all of them are laying

Breeds can be a factor, as can age, and molt status. Light has a big impact, but assume you are located in a place that is moving into summer time right now, and likely getting enough light to lay.

I have 10 hens across 7 breeds. We typically get 5-7 eggs a day (full range of 3-8 eggs/day). Two are pullets age 8 months, and 8 are hens age 15 months. Approx 3 have molted so far and are back to laying, but that means the other 5 are due to molt in the next few months, which means no eggs for a time while they molt. Hoping the 7 pullets we have that are 3.5 months old will begin to lay a few weeks from now, then we might just have some eggs to give away.

Good luck.

Do you know what breed your hens are? I have sexlinks who when they were younger were producing a egg a day, now that they are older 3.5 yrs, they've slowed down a lot. My others who are mixed are every other day. As EggSighted4life asked, what are you feeding them? mine get layer pellets, scratch as treats along with kitchen scraps sometimes, the scratch and kitchen scrapes are only given as treats, not full time food.
