The girls are 16 weeks old and started laying a few days ago. I am only steadily getting 2 eggs a day for the last few days, so I know they aren't all laying yet. My birds have a barn for their coop, free-range during the day and eat like pigs in my compost pile. Don't know if the food variety helped, but I'm told 16 weeks is early to lay so we must be doing something right. They're favorite foods are strawberries, radishes and spinach.
Out of the dozen eggs laid so far, all shells were formed nicely and there was only one reject egg that didn't have a yoke but had just a blood spot when we cracked it to eat. I'd actually say the egg shells are thicker and stronger than the store bought eggs!
