Ok I really didn't know where to post this!!!!!

I have 10 chickens - one is an older hen and one is a little tiny girl who still lays tiny eggs. Then I have 3 who were rescued they lay but I never expect too much from them as they were starved near to death and they are still recovering.

Anyhow - from about end of August egg production starts to fall. As I go into the winter months it stops alltogether for about 8 - 12 weeks and then like the spring they start laying again. This last 7 days I got 52 eggs. Sometimes there are so many I am not sure what to do with them all. I give them to friends and family but its not cost affective at the moment because none of them think to say here have something for their feed etc. I need to look into how to store eggs for those none productive months. I can;t pickle as DH is allergic to vinigar.

This last week I got 4 soft squiggy eggs, you know like they have no shell just like a water balloon. I am not sure what causes that or how to fix it? They have plently of grit etc. One of the other girls is laying eggs that are miss shappen. Slightly rippled nothing more sinister. I wonder if she may have had IB in the past????( I am pretty sure it is one of my original girls and not one of the 3 new girls. I did seperate them and intrioduce them slowely so that I knew they were not ill, they have been here since Feb and are looking very good by this stage.) The Rippled eggs are quite normal inside and the shell is the normal thickness its just sometimes a bit rippled not smooth like it should be. None of the hens look ill at all. They are all very healthy and happy girls appart from Drum stick who constantly has feet that look like she has mites? I treat her every couple of weeks but it never got better and I have had her for 4 yrs nearly now. She always puts them in the water bowls and washes them?

So I am kind of worried a bit about the odd shapped egg and the 4 balloon eggs - Was thinking they were like that because of the amount of laying lately?
I am getting 7-9 eggs per day sometimes I score with a full house and get 10 eggs in one day!!! A while back there was a lot of blood in one of the coops but I couldn;t find out who it came from. It worried me as I lost a hen throw prolapse before so I upended them all to check and nothing was wrong with any of them?

With the no shelled eggs and the misshaped eggs try giving them some oystershell in with them. Either put it in a seperate bowl or you can mix a bag into their food.

They could be starting to molt at the end of August. Thats when my girls usually start and their done within a month or two.

The soft eggs may be a lack of calcium. Some people use oyster shell. I just crumble up the eggs shells and give them back to the chickens. I also give cottage cheese and yogurt for the calcium. My shells are hard as a rock.

All those excess eggs could be fed to the chickens, too. Or try a local food bank. But they last a LONG time in the fridge. I'm sure you could also scramble some and freeze them for later use (never done it, but it seems possible).
