Eggshell covered in gritty material

A hen is laying eggs that have what feels like sand on the outside. A fresh laid egg can easy be wiped clean while an egg that has sat for a few hours is covered in hard material - it tends to be in clumps on the egg. It comes off with scrubbing. Only one hen does this. Problem or personal oddity? If I get one today I will post a photo.

Is the nest box clean? Some times I get "sawdust" off my eggs when the pine shaving have been crushed a lot.

Contains clean pine shavings. This stuff on the egg is like fine sand and only on one hen's eggs.
