Eggsperiment

Well we got a fairly cheap incubator, not the cheapest, but on the cheaper side to try and see if we could incubate a few eggs. Out of 9 eggs we candled them last night after 5 days, might have not been a good idea. I do not have the greatest expectations with this particular incubator. But we had veining in 8 of the 9, so I think it is at least possible we might end up with some end up hatching, only time will tell I suppose. I thought I would share a couple pictures, not the greatest, but you can see there is some development. We are excited as it was interesting to see. Regardless if this experiment results in hatching, it is very interesting!
Excellent pics!! The cheap ones can and do work well. I got a cheap one as my first incubator and once I got the knack with it with it gave me great results. Good luck with your eggs!

Mine is a still air incubator, Farm innovators, I am hand turning, I should get a turner for it. I did have a Little giant, with fan and turner, and I would move the eggs to the farm innovator to do the hatching in there. (keeping one clean.) Having 2 was nice, I could stagger better and not have eggs in same incubator. I decided to sell my LG. (Never hatched in.) I kept my FI since it was used, but I clean it every time. I wanted to slow my hatching, not that it has. I have 12 on day 6. Dry hatch.

The thing I like about Foam incubators, is I am familiar with them, and there is no beeping alarm to annoy me. The digital readers are always off, on every ones, get a dial or a bulb thermometer, and or hydrometer.

Yeah, we was hoping we could get some hatched with this one. So far it seems to be doing it's job, so that is a good start. Thank you, we sure do need some good luck!

Yeah first thing I did once we got it and got it unboxed, And looked at how it went together and got it put together was plug it in and run it and play with the temp on it while checking with another thermometer for accuracy. I decided it was about a degree off, and verified, ran it to watch for dips or if it kept it steady and all that. Other than being a bit off on the reading it tested stable. I do need a hydrometer I can place in it. Should have one this week.

Just a quick update on our progress. We candled all the eggs yesterday. One of the 9 had no veining or anything so we removed that egg. The other 8 you can see the embryos in them. We actually let them sit there to really look at them while candling, and they all had movement! One in particular when I moved my hand near it to point, appeared to react and move away... We were not expecting to see any movement as it was only the 7th day, haven't seen what time frame the movement would start, so just assumed it would be a bit longer like maybe the around the second week - third week. Very interesting, unfortunately I hadn't charged my phone so I didn't get pictures or video of it, and wish I had as it is amazing to see this process! I will note some of the eggs it was less noticeable of the movement than others, so maybe the ones with the less movement are the ones that won't make it? Either way it is pretty fascinating to see this.
:woot

An update, now 21 days, so 5 more until lockdown. Still barely see movement in the remaining 8 of 9. Although at this point they are so big candling is about impossible. Have to watch real close to notice the movement at the edge of the darkness lol. Interesting to see just how many end up hatching. I really wanted more pictures, I will need a better candling system next go around.

New update on incubation, on the 21st put the eggs in lockdown. Just looked today on the 23rd and there is visible pipping with 5 of the 8 eggs right now! Attached is a picture where you can see one.
