Thank you very much. I am working on it each day waiting for my roof. hehehehehe Tomorrow the ventilation covers and temporary roosts for my girls. I have to seperate my small girls inside the coop for a bit.

There are 32 of them total. 6 who are 27 weeks old, 5 who are 12 weeks old and 21 who are 7 weeks old.

I had not thought about letting them have their own remote, but it is possible. My DH is going to teach my SLW how to operate a catapult. She will lob flaming eggs at the foxes patrolling the borders.

) My question is: what are you doing for the ventilation covers you mentioned? (sorry if this has been covered here already...didn't have time to read EVERY post

) Here in VT, the ventilation vs. drafts thing is a big challenge in winter.

I have 1/4" hardwire cloth to go over the ventilation holes and they will be trimmed with 1 x 2. For winter, I will close off some of them if need be. They are all at 6' or higher so I am hoping it will not be too bad.

If it does get drafty, I will close some of them off.

Yeah, thanks, that's what I've been wondering - how do you close them off? I'm leery about cutting into our coop until I know how to cover the holes back up.

My windows are all covered in hardware cloth, then surrounded by white trim on the outside. In the winter I'm going to slide a piece of plex in there and hold it in with thumb turner things--like you get on the back of some picture frames. It won't cut the air completely, but it should cut the majority of the draft issues with little trouble. Then if I want to take a pane out on a beautiful day, I can just pull the glass out again for a few hours, and return it at bedtime. I probably won't do this often because I have a couple of sliding windows I'll probably slide open and closed instead, but the option is there, and it will be simple.

So far, we'd been just relying on poor construction methods to provide ventilation!

That is about how I am going to do it except that instead of plexi I am going to use wood. By doing that, I can open and close them as I need.
