I hatched my first set of Australorp cross chicks and one did not make it. Can anyone tell what may have caused the death based on this pic?

To me, it looks like the embryo was only in the day 8-11 range, it didn’t develop very much. If this was the only chick that did not make it, there was likely something that was wrong with it from the get-go. I don’t see anything glaringly obvious, but I’m also no expert. Good luck with the rest of your babies!

Yep I agree with this. It has started to decompose, just an early quitter. What was your hatch rate?

It looks like it quit sometime around day 10ish. There are numerous things that could have caused it to quit but nothing stands out to me in this image either, sorry.
