I have 28 9-12 week old chicks that I've been trying to integrate with my older hens/rooster for about 10 days now. I finally took the hardware cloth fence between them away at that time. None of the hens or rooster have been bothering any of the chicks except for the 10 week old Egyptian Fayoumis. I found her with a bloody back of the neck last week. After putting her up the garage brooder and after the neck wounds healed, I put her back in the coop/ run, only to find her at the end of the day, practically scalped in the nesting box again. Is there any chance this chick will become big enough to defend itself or is keeping this chick a lost cause? I'm not sure why only this one chick is getting targeted or who is doing the pecking. I'd like to keep her if I can.
