How old is she? I would love to take her, I would have to work something out with my BF as to when we could come pick her up, that is wonderful.

Just an update on Nelly, the injured BC, (I still dont know for sure if this is the male or female so I am just assuming female for now), she is 16 days old and still kickin. what a fighter. I felt sorry for her mate being all healthy and rambunctious and being stuck in a box with her, So I let him go outside with the others. Nelly doesn't seem to mind being in her box by herself. She doesn't scream and peep, She just sits all day, eatin food off the floor of her box and waiting for me to come and help her drink some water

. She is growing and developing just as the others are, her wings are SO long now. I was really inspired by Monique, AKA Ruth's story about Ruth the injured EE that turned out to be a healthy chick from much TLC. I hope that Nelly pulls through. Due to her uncertain past and future she has already became a very tame and docile pet chicken, those make the best kind

I just found this thread by searching for "buttercup"...
I just built a coop, and i got 3 pullets from a horse-woman a few days ago who got them from a friend as chicks for her barn, and had no idea what breeds they were...
the other two are probably a cross of red/white RIR, and I finally figured out that the third is a buttercup!
my buttercup is VERY skittish right now, very hard to catch, and will run like mad! I'm concerned because the other two larger hens are pecking and chasing her a lot. It sounds like buttercups have the ability to be more docile, but maybe mine is so used to getting ganged up on, she's scared of everyone? I've only had them a few days, but the other two RIR types are eating out of my hand, etc, but the buttercup hasn't let me touch her yet. I'm planning on trying to hold her at least once a day to get her used to me.
Any other thoughts? especially about the different breeds being territorial with each other?

I have not had buttercups but I gather they have "the mediterranean breed temperament" i.e. could stand to switch to decaf <g>. I have a campine who is just the same way, as were her 5 siblings all of whom unfortunately turned out to be roos I couldn't keep (sold to breeding and ornamental homes). The campines just seem to like to race around like in a Roadrunner cartoon on the slightest (or no) provocation, and if you try to catch them they will dodge for all they're worth. Despite this, once they were used to me they were actually quite brave and friendly. Just didn't want to be touched or caught

So it seems quite likely what you're seeing is just basic temperament. The more time you spend sitting around the coop in a nonthreatening way, esp. if you have food on your feet or something like that

, the more she will get used to you although she may never be quite the same as the RIRs.

Good luck,

Pat

I have had both and I love the Fayoumi over the Buttercup. They were just very comical and full of personality, good layers and I have heard very broody. They Buttercups were flighty and a little skittish. Now the Fayoumi did not like to be handled but they were so much fun to watch I never really wanted to pick them up.

When I get more space I would love to have a flock of Fayoumi.
