Egyptian Fayoumis

Here is some info I found. From "Storey's Illustrated Guide To Poultry Breeds"

cock: 4.5 lb
hen: 3.5 lb

"A small active bird, the Fayoumi hails from Egypt."
"Young hens are not given to broodiness, but the two- and three-year-old hens are. The hens are excellent layers of small, off white eggs, though pink-tinted eggs are not unusual. They are fast to mature: pullets begin to lay at four and a half months, and cockrels start to crow by five to six weeks. They are almost feral-like, being self-sufficient and rugged, foraging for all their own food if given the chance."

I can't wait to have some when my hubby and I find a farm. If you like Fayoumi's, check out Norwegian Jearhons. They are small too (3-3.5 lbs), but the hens lay a large egg.

There is also info at feathersite.com

I had some Fayoumis and I loved them. I sold them off to make more room (mistake

) now I want them again. My little roo started crowing at 4 weeks old. They were really funny little birds.

Closer to a leghorn. Mine is about the same size as my white leghorn. This is a pic when she was younger. She is bigger now. Mine has not been broody, and she is almost a year old now. She lays about 5 eggs a week. She is really nosey.

I called mine the James bond of the chicken world, they were great escape artist. I loved the sounds they made, they were very talkative but not obnoxious.
