Well, folks, to get right to the point, I live in a very hot climate and so need heat-hardy birds (I'm just planning for the future at the moment, but still), but would like them to be good layers, as well. I've been looking around on a page listing quite a few chicken breeds, and I chanced to see an entry about a breed called the Fayoumi. Does anyone have these birds? What are they like?

Thanks! ^_^

I used to have a few, hatchery stock. They were FREAKIN CRAZY but other than that, very good layers (tiny tiny eggs though), cockerals mature soooo fast, crowing at 4 weeks-no kidding! I liked them, but they were seriously way to flighty for me.

I like my chickens like I like my men, slow and stupid!

What is it with so many heat hardy birds being crazy-flighty (Penedesencas, Fayoumis, etc.)? I love the dark eggs that Pene's lay, but they're supposed to be insane when it comes to human interaction, too. >_<

I have 2 - Cleopatra and Nefertiti. They are very talkative, are the first ones to come running to me and are the ringleaders of the group. They come over to the house and are very loud. I love them! They have very boisterous personalities.
