The Easter Hatch a long will be here before you know it! Now that the chaos of the Christmas season are basically behind us, the hatch fever prepping should begin

I plan to buy or hatch 2-4 breeds this year. I want to hatch most in the Easter hatch along if possible. So, there are a few breeds I will be seeking breeders of and I love to support fellow byc folks.

So, I figured we can post what we have or expect will have available for sale, trade or swap come early March. We should also post what breeds we would like to get eggs of.
We do not have to limit this to Chickens of course but various different birds have different incubation timing needs so know when you will need them by to get them hatched by April 8th ( Easter).

I sadly don't have much to offer as far as eggs that can go out.
If things go well with my current eggs in the bator, I should have the ability to ship out a dozen+ ( depend on how my hens/ rosters hatch ) Standard color Jumbo size Courtunix Quail.

I am seeking the following : (6+ of each)
Good quality Swedish Flower hen eggs
Meaty, Blocky Quality white or Dark standard size Cornish ( not cross and not Banty size)
Good quality ( not hatchery unless rare good quality) Favorelles.

Please share your haves and wants for the hatch along.

Ooh, this sounds interesting. If Myshire Farms has hatching eggs available before Easter, then I'll try to join in. I'm wanting to raise an assortment of Coturnix quail.

Great idea! Easter 2021 is April 4. I was planning to have chicks and rainbow hatching eggs available by Easter, but could also have hatching eggs available in March. I only do local pickup, or possibly I could meet up with someone within a reasonable distance from the farm. I am located about an hour south of St. Louis, Missouri. My flock is free range, but I've recently created a breeding coop/pen to take some of the guesswork out of hatching. I'm planning to have my most handsome rooster, Elvis in the breeding pen. He's a Golden Spangled Appenzeller Spitzhauben from Cackle Hatchery.


In with him, at a minimum, will be a couple of Dominique hens, for black crested sex links. Here's what the pullets will look like


I'm also planning to include a Cream Legbar and Olive Egger for brown crested sex links. Here's what the pullets from their union would look like


They're only 4.5 weeks old now, but I'm posting pictures as they grow on this thread: is-there-such-a-thing-as-brown-sex-link-using-barring-gene. I expect the final feathering to look a lot like a Spitzhauben, which is another hen I may have in the breeding pen...

Finally, I'm planning to try a first time cross with our least flighty Hamburg hen, which will produce sex linked chicks as well...pullets will look very much like the above Spitzhauben hen (except with rose combs, so the crest will be pushed back), and cockerels will have light colored down with silver adult feathering, like the Hamburg.



I'm also thinking about including a Welsummer and Speckled Sussex hen in the pen, to try out a couple of additional first time crosses.

Out in the free range flock, I'll have flock leader Cream Legbar

Who is likely to father any hatching eggs, but these two could also sneak one in...

They will be ranging with all of the breeds in my signature.
It would be interesting to see if there is any demand in central or southern Missouri for hatching eggs from my flock. Please let me know!

You are right on the date. I misread the calendar lol. You have some nice looking chickens. I'm in Lebanon Mo, so more middish south.
I bet some would have interest for sure. I'm seeking some specifics that sadly you don't have. Legbar is a nice color egg layer to pass genes on .
I'm hoping my single Bresse hen will start laying once we have her and the rooster in their new run but even then I won't have many by March. We shall see ...

You're right next to Cackle Hatchery and have lots of options! I'm thinking about making a run to Cackle to pick up a few chicks to include in my Easter offerings, here in Farmington, MO. I also would like to add a Welsummer rooster to the flock, and I can never have enough Welsummer hens---they've been amazing. I drive nearly 3 hours each way to pick up from Cackle--it's where I get all of my chicks, unless I hatch them myself.

My Silver Grey Dorking's should start laying soon, so I'm hoping to hatch some of them for the Easter one. I have 7 pullet's and a cockerel for the group. I'll probably throw in some from my Naked Neck's too.

Nice Blue! I found a breeder for Dorkings of various colors in Oh. That like 600 miles for shipping but I'm wanting them for my project

Well, I have to wait until mine start laying and then see if the cockerel will fertilize them first. They are cute with the way that they act, and the chatter sound different than my other breed's do. The pullet's are eating any of the bee's and black ant's that come into the run. They are surprisingly fast for their size.
