I can't figure out if I can have chickens in my county (I live in a small town). I checked the LORE project and no cities from my county are listed. I live in El Dorado County, California. Here's the like to the county website:

Can anyone help me figure this out? I think I've checked all over the site and everywhere, but can't find anything about chickens!

You don't understand, a city is just a name here. Everything is governed by the county. We have no police, only county sheriff, etc... so how can I tell when I don't really live in a city?

El Dorado County has a right to farm ordinance on the books:

A link to which is provided here: http://www.co.el-dorado.ca.us/Planning/Ordinances/1713.pdf

You
need to contact the county planning department and find out what zone your property is in as that determines if the right to farm ordinance applies to your property.

I'd say that the power is likely vested there and with the county Agriculture department.

They enforce animal issues through their Animal Services department.

Good luck.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! This is something I'll have to consider as I look for a new house to buy and I'm glad I am armed with this knowledge now!

I agree, there is no information regarding ownership of chickens and if there is it's hard to find.
