I think I saw a louse and nits around the vent of one chicken last night (in the dark with a small head lamp). Need to confirm in daylight. I do not want to use permethrin. Elector PSP sounds great, if expensive. As far as I can tell, it is not actually listed as treating chicken lice, though? Can someone confirm it will treat lice before I drop $$$ for off-label use? Thanks!

Yes it can be used to treat lice. But because of the price, I use permethrin concentrate mixed per label instructions for lice. It can be used twice or more at 10 day intervals to get lice and their eggs before they reproduce. The coop, roosts, and nest boxes should be emptied of bedding, and the coop treated before new bedding is used. Permethrin is not to be used if you raise bees, or if you have cats inside your coop. But I have never had any problems with my farm cats, since it is safe once it dries. Permethrin 10 concentrate is available at TSC in 8 ounce and larger containers for $9 and up, and make many gallons when mixed with water. Here is a link for the Elector PSP if you want to read about it:

I really like the idea of a one time application. I do have cats that do go in the run. I haven’t seen them enter the coop itself, but they could if they wanted when the run is open to free range. Thanks for the links!

Also, if I get this, what is the off-label dilution for lice? Just follow same for mites?

Also I like the no egg withdrawal time; is there one for permethrin?
