Elector psp

No emergency here, just a question. I’ve seen many posts that say elector psp is the best treatment for lice and mites on chickens. Price is very expensive though. When I looked up the active ingredient it was spinosad. That sounded familiar so I found a bottle I had bought for gardening and it was spinosad! Could this be used? A lot cheaper. Of course you would have to check mix amount to put in water. ??

Can you remember how much you paid for the bottle of Spinosad?
I've had to resort to finding chemicals by chemical name, rather than by product use quite a lot in the UK. None of the products I found are marketed for chickens but the active chemical is the same and often at similar strength to the products that are marketed for chickens in other countries.

Do I recommend you try it? No.
Would I try it myself aftermaking sure I had the correct dose of the active chemical/s? Yes.

You wouldn't dilute what you have at all. It is half the recommended strength for treating northern fowl mites with spinosad.
When you dilute the 44.2% Elector PSP 3 oz/1 gallon to treat the birds, that comes out to a 1.04% solution of spinosad.
The bottle you have is 0.5% spinosad.
All that said, I'd use it and see how it works. It affects the nervous system of the insect causing the muscles to flex uncontrollably and they die within 1 or 2 days. Spinosad is a natural substance derived from soil bacteria.

I know this is an old thread, but the instruction sheet that comes with Elector PSP says to dilute to 3 ozs per 10 gallons of water for northern fowl mites, not 1 gallon as you mention. I don't know what that concentration comes down to, but if the undiluted is 42% I think it would be a lower concentration than what you mentioned? Anyway, Just thought I would chime in. I need someone to do the math for the actual result. Not me!

Hi I know this is a old thread but I’m trying to figure out these comparisons with spinosad and before I go tooting my horn at a few people recommended to use another spinosad product I want to verify the numbers. You have the active ingredient figure in a gallon of psp 3oz/1gallon being 1.04% . My question is are you sure it’s not 3oz to 10 gallons that the configuration should come from and not being a math wiz your answer might be correct still when using 3oz /10 gallon instead of 1. The mix of 9ml per gallon is for poultry by the gallon instead of 3oz. Just need the math on the active ingredient in a gallon that was mixed properly. Thank you
